1. Power-cycle, not just dock
Hold the power button for 5 seconds until the robot fully shuts down. A soft dock return does not reset the LiDAR controller.
2. Clean the turret window
Wipe the dark band around the turret with a dry microfibre cloth. Do not use liquid — it wicks into the bearing. Fine dust on this window causes 60% of the errors we see.
3. Spin the turret by hand
It should rotate smoothly with one finger. Grinding or resistance means hair or grit in the bearing: pull hair out with tweezers and blow the seam with compressed air from 20 cm.
4. Check for a stuck bumper on the turret guard
The turret guard has its own micro-bumper. Press it in a few times; if it stays depressed, a piece of debris is wedged under it.
5. Move out of direct sunlight
Strong sunlight through a window saturates the receiver. If the error only happens in the afternoon in one room, this is the cause — draw the blind or reschedule.
6. Rebuild the map
If the robot runs but the map is fragmented or rooms drift, the LiDAR is fine and the map data is corrupt. Delete and rebuild the map in the app.
7. Replace the LiDAR module
Turret modules cost $30–$60 and swap with four screws on most brands. If the motor whines or will not spin after cleaning, replace it rather than the robot.

Yes. On Roborock, Dreame and JONR robots the module is held by four Phillips screws under the top cover and connects with a single ribbon cable.

Almost always sunlight or a mirror at turret height. Both overwhelm or confuse the infrared receiver.
