General consumer review sites test everything from air fryers to lawnmowers. By narrowing our focus strictly to floor care, we can score every meaningful machine on the same published criteria instead of spreading a small team across dozens of unrelated categories.
When a new flagship vacuum is announced claiming “10,000 Pa suction” or “AI obstacle avoidance,” we don’t rewrite the press release. We tag that number as a manufacturer spec, look for independent test results that confirm or contradict it, link those sources, and only then score the machine against its rivals.
How We Evaluate
Every model is scored on the same published criteria, and every data input is labelled by where it came from:
Suction & Airflow, Like for Like
Cordless sticks and uprights are rated in Airwatts (AW); robot vacuums are rated in Pascals (Pa). These are different metrics for different form factors, never mixed or converted to make numbers look comparable.
Cited Debris-Pickup Results
Pickup on pet hair, fine dust and larger debris across carpet and hard floors comes from named independent testers we link to; a figure only carries a Measured tag when we weighed it ourselves.
Filtration Integrity
Sealed HEPA claims are only shown when the manufacturer or a cited source states them, because a filter is only as good as the seal around it.
Editorial Team & Review Standards
BestVacuumCleaner.co is an independent, small editorial operation. We do not have a large corporate laboratory, and we do not pretend to: every figure on the site is labelled with where it came from (the manufacturer’s spec sheet, an independent test we cite, or a measurement we took ourselves on a unit we had in hand). How do you calculate vacuum ratings?
Every model is scored across six criteria (hard-floor pickup, carpet pickup, pet hair, edges/navigation, app controls, and value) built from labelled evidence: the manufacturer's own spec, an independent citation we link to, or a measurement we took ourselves on a unit we had in hand. The overall BVC Score is an editorial rating informed by those criteria, not a raw average, which is why a cheaper, more balanced machine can outrank a pricier one that wins on a single spec. Are your recommendations influenced by manufacturers?
