Dyson Previews 150,000 RPM Hyperdymium Micro Motor
Dyson engineering reveals prototype Penn micro motor delivering 300 Air Watts in a compact form factor for future cordless stick vacuums.
Dyson engineers have filed new global patent disclosures showcasing a dramatically downsized digital motor capable of spinning at an unprecedented 150,000 RPM.
Breakthrough 300 Air Watt Threshold
Current flagship cordless sticks (such as the Dyson Gen5detect and V15 Detect) operate between 230 and 280 Air Watts of maximum suction power. The new motor architecture—internally referred to as the Penn Micro Motor—incorporates ceramic bearings and a 3D-sculpted neodymium impeller that pushes continuous suction past 300 Air Watts while reducing overall motor assembly weight by 22%.
Acoustic Tuning and Reduced High-Pitch Whine
Beyond raw static pressure and airflow, Dyson engineers focused on acoustic psychoacoustics. The motor features an acoustic diffuser with 16 aerodynamic vane channels tuned to shift high-frequency motor harmonics beyond the threshold of human hearing, delivering quieter operation even when operating at maximum boost suction.
Initial product integration is expected in Dyson’s upcoming 2027 cordless lineup.
