Miele Guard L1 Electro: Quick Verdict
The Bottom Line: Miele's current flagship bagged canister and RTINGS' Best Miele Vacuum. Filtration and pet-hair pickup are excellent and it is the only Guard model with a HEPA filter, but its bare-floor pickup trails the SEBO Airbelt D4 (RTINGS 6.1 vs 8.2), carpet pickup is only okay, and it is heavy and expensive.

In-Depth Notes & Analysis
What RTINGS says
RTINGS lists the Guard L1 Electro as its Best Miele Vacuum and describes it as "the top-of-the-line model in the brand's 2025 Guard series, which replaces the long-running Miele Complete C3 lineup."
On its main best-vacuums page, RTINGS calls it "a high-end canister vacuum with better air filtration than the SEBO Airbelt D4" that "lags behind the SEBO in terms of raw performance." RTINGS partial ratings: House 8.7, Air Quality 9.8, Pet Hair Pickup 8.8, Carpet Pickup 6.5, Bare Floor Pickup 6.1.
Filtration and floorheads
Miele lists a HEPA AirClean exhaust filter, 3.5 L HyClean Pure TU dustbags, a 1200 W PowerLine motor and an automatic mode that adjusts suction to the floor type. RTINGS notes it is the only Guard model with a HEPA filter.
It ships with the SEB 228 electrobrush for carpets, an SBB AllFloor brush and an SBD 365-3 floorhead (Miele). RTINGS says the floorhead struggles with larger debris on hard floors, a weakness it sees across the whole Guard lineup.
Weight and price
Miele lists 17 lb; RTINGS reports a total of nearly 22 lb with the electric powerhead and says that makes carrying it between rooms or up stairs a hassle.
Miele USA sells it for $1,499. RTINGS concludes that if pet hair pickup and a HEPA filter matter less to you, the Guard M1 or S1 deliver very similar performance for less.
