Design and dock
The R7 Pro is a conventional 35 cm puck with a top-mounted LiDAR turret and a front sensor array housing the structured-light projector and RGB camera. Build quality is solid: matte black ABS, a lift-off lid over a 350 ml bin, and a bumper that tolerated a summer of chair-leg collisions without a scuff.
The Omni Station is where the value lives. A 2.5 L dust bag (60 days in our two-pet household), a 4 L clean-water tank, 3.5 L dirty-water tank and a 55 °C hot-air dryer that runs for two hours after every mop session. Nothing about it feels cost-reduced compared with the docks on $1,200+ robots.
Cleaning performance
On sealed hardwood the R7 Pro collected 99% of our standardised rice-and-flour mix in a single pass, and 97% of the embedded pet hair on low-pile carpet after its automatic carpet-boost engaged. High-pile results (88%) trailed the S8 MaxV Ultra by about six points — the one area where the 10,000 Pa Roborock justifies its premium.
Mopping uses dual spinning pads with adjustable pressure and a 12 mm lift over carpet. It removed dried coffee rings from LVP in two passes, and the dock washed the pads clean enough that we never had to hand-rinse them across a month of daily runs.
Navigation and obstacle avoidance
Mapping a 140 m² apartment took 11 minutes and the LiDAR map survived furniture rearrangements without a rebuild. The structured-light system identified 17 of our 20 obstacle-course items (cables, socks, a phone charger, pet waste analogue) — the same hit rate we recorded on the Dreame L20 Ultra.
Edge cleaning benefits from an extending side brush that pushes debris out of 90° corners; we measured a 4 cm corner gap versus 7 cm on the Roomba Combo j9+.
App, smart home and noise
The JONR Home app covers everything that matters: multi-floor maps, room-by-room suction and water levels, no-go zones, scheduling and a cleaning history log. It lacks the video-call and remote-viewing features Roborock offers, and firmware updates arrive roughly quarterly rather than monthly.
Native Matter support means the R7 Pro appears directly in Apple Home, Google Home and Home Assistant without a separate skill. We measured 64 dB(A) in Standard mode at one metre — quiet enough to run during a work call.
